Endoscopy

ASSOCIATED VETERINARY SPECIALISTS' INTERNAL MEDICINE VETERINARIANS PROVIDE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE FOR OUR VETERINARY PATIENTS.

Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy is one of the most common procedures performed at AVS on dogs and cats.  While under general anesthesia, a long, tube with a video camera is guided through the mouth, into the esophagus then the stomach and upper small intestine. Photographs and biopsies of the intestines are obtained and the biopsies are submitted to the pathologist for evaluation.  Endoscopy is also used for the removal of foreign material, balloon dilation or feeding tube placement.
